Smallest Robot :Meet the world’s smallest robot in KUALA LUMPUR

Standing at only 15cm tall and controlled by infrared, the robot is able to “perform” for two hours. For creator Chang Ho Yu, the robot, the size of a pocket pad, is a life-long dream come true.
“I have always been very interested in making robots, especially since my company discovered some very advanced technology from Japan three years ago. “But that technology was expensive, so we decided to create our own robot using cheaper technology,” said Chang, the general manager of Taiwan-based GeStream Technology Inc, at the exclusive preview of the robot here yesterday. With 16 degrees of freedom, which translates to 65536 motions, the Taiwanese humanoid robot is the smallest, lightest and the cheapest in the world. “This new version is suitable for robot games and it is easy for the owner to download and update the newest robot motions or movements,” he said, adding that it was also easy to assemble and disassemble the battery-operated robot. “Because the robot is sold in pieces, the owner will need to programme and learn to build his own robot. He can also add in any motion he wants to the robot,” said Chang. “In Taiwan, this robot is used as an educational tool for children. A lot of patience and discipline is needed in building a good robot.” To a question, Chang said that there were plans to modify the look of the robot and to add in voice control in the near future. “We can make it look cuter or more feminine or masculine and produce it in different colours,” he said. The robot is priced at about RM650 to RM700. The tiny machine makes its grand appearance at 3pm from Sept 6 to 8 at the 8th International Strategic Partnership & Business Networking Trade Fair for SMEs (Global SMEs 2007) to be held at Matrade Exhibition & Convention Centre KL.
